Abstract
This paper presents a study on the effect of load power distribution on the overall system or platform energy efficiency. By utilizing a MatLabreg simulation model that has been developed in this work, it is shown how the load power probability-distribution-function (P-PDF) and the power efficiency curve of power delivery/conversion affects the overall energy consumption of a load, system, and/or platform. The study shows how to select the power conversion efficiency optimization point and shape given a known P-PDF. It is also shown that there is a potential to improve the system or platform overall energy efficiency, if the workload distribution and power management scheme used are designed while considering available VR designs efficiency curves, such that the appropriate P-PDF is obtained for higher total energy efficiency.
