Abstract :
This paper presents the design, design analysis and design comparison of slotted, slotless and coreless double air-gap axial flux BLDC motors and its compatibility for a windmill application. Design programs have been developed to design a slotted, slotless and coreless double air-gap axial flux permanent magnet generator which is capable of providing the optimum machine dimension, material estimation, performance prediction and cost estimation of the machine. The design output of a specific rating windmill generator using the developed design program is illustrated in this work. The 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) investigates the field distribution at the different sections of the machine. The appropriate selection of the BLDC motor compatible for the windmill generator is the focus of this work. The results are presented to validate the design.
