Abstract :
The eastern area of Thailand is the industrial area in which a number of generators are located and the large amount of power has to be transferred to the large load area in the central area of Thailand. In the meanwhile, the problems occurred in the transmission system are overloading lines in 115 kV Rayong3 (RY3)-Sataheap1 (SH1)-Chom Tein (CTN) lines because of limited and obsolete transmission lines. Nowadays, tripping the overloaded line is applied as the power flow control method. After disconnecting the transmission line, however, it may cause decreasing reliability and some power failure in the system. This study is regarding the methods of power flow control using power flow control equipment such as series reactor, series capacitor, applying in the system. Not only the steady state study but also the stability and the economic study have been done. This paper represents the power flow control problem focusing in eastern Thailand´s network, also providing the efficient method comparing with the expenditure of new transmission lines, which have high costs and are time consuming. This paper shows the technical results and investment budget to be a new alternative choice of investment in the transmission system in Thailand.
