Abstract :
Recently, three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors (IMs) have often been used as variable-speed motors driven by an inverter system. However, when an IM is operated over a wide speed range, its losses and efficiency change remarkably. In this paper, the authors present the results of the stray load losses (SLLs) determined by two methods using 4- and 8-pole IMs having different gap lengths; the motors are driven by a sinusoidal-wave source during high-speed constant-voltage operation. Moreover, the characteristics of the efficiencies of the IMs are investigated.
