  • Abstract
The Office of Naval Research, the Naval Research Laboratory, and commercial partner Space Technology Development Corporation are currently in the critical design phase of the Naval EarthMap Observer (NEMO) spacecraft program. NEMO will demonstrate the utility of a hyperspectral Earth-imaging system to support Naval needs for characterization of the littoral (coastal ocean) regions of the world and commercial needs for land use management, agriculture, environmental studies, and mineral exploration. Data handling from user request to data delivery is one of the many challenges posed by NEMO. The NEMO program must be able to accept data requests from users, create spacecraft tasking, collect data from the spacecraft, process and archive the data, provide access for users to browse collected imagery, and deliver processed data products to these users. Some of these steps will employ unique approaches due to the nature of hyperspectral imagery data
