Abstract
The time multiplexed pilot based estimation of fading channels for coherent DS-CDMA downlink communications is considered in the present work. A method of fading estimation and cancellation that uses prediction is proposed. The effectiveness of the predictive model is demonstrated by studying the performance of this method. In this scheme, the pilot transmission is confined to only alternative slots and prediction is used for fading estimation in the intermediate slots. A single slot averaging algorithm is used in this method for fading estimation. Prediction of the fading is done by Wiener extrapolation. Performance of this method is studied through extensive computer simulation experiments for multipath fading channels and it is compared with that of the conventional pilot based method.
