Abstract :
Many Americans, especially those in metropolitan areas, take the availability and abundance of good water for granted. For many rural people, however, adequate and safe water supplies are not guaranteed. Approximately one sixth of all Americans rely on a groundwater supply that is continually threatened by increased demand and sources of contamination. A team of six Systems Engineering students under the direction of Professor Garrick E. Louis, developed a model for ground water assessment (GWA) that could be used for planning development in rural areas that depend primarily on ground water for their water supply. The project was carried out on private wells in the Ivy subdivision of Albemarle County, Virginia. ArcGIS\´s manufacturer, ESRI, defines ArcGIS as "integrated collection of GIS software products for building a complete GIS for the organization. ArcGIS has a user-friendly interface that a new user can easily use. GIS allows users to transfer a database into the map based on coordinates in the database
