Abstract :
Slot array antennas are used for marine navigation, radars, and telemetry systems and for reception of microwave television signals in the multipoint distribution service (MDS) at 2.145 GHz. The prime purpose of this paper is to present the practical part of an X-band slotted array antenna. The design is made for frequency of 10 GHz. The bandwidth of the array is narrow while its gain is relatively high. The feeding technique is designed to maintain constant phase for all elements of the array. Manufacturing simplicity is optimized with the required features and characteristics of the antenna. Such an array is a linear one. The antenna consists of seventeen juxtaposed waveguides for operation in the X-band. The antenna structure is designed such that corner reflections are avoided. Precise location and optimum dimensions of slots are described. Also feeding of the array is included. Practical dimensions of the array are calculated. The radiation pattern in both E and H planes and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) are accurately measured. There is good agreement between the measured and the calculated results.
