Abstract :
This paper provides an overview of the high efficiency flexible solar array paddle for ADEOS-II (Advanced Earth Observing Satellite-II) being developed by NASDA. ADEOS-II is a large satellite and has many mission instruments. To supply enough electrical power, the paddle uses high efficiency thin silicon solar cells. The cell has a pyramidal nonreflective surface and BSFR (black surface field and reflector) structure. The key feature of the cell is that the solar cell efficiency is about 17%, which is comparable with conventional GaAs solar cells. ADEOS-II will be launched by H-II rocket vehicle equipped with the highest performance silicon solar array paddle, in 1999
