Abstract :
Variable reluctance permanent magnet (VRPM) motors have a potential for direct drive applications due to their simple structures and high torque characteristics. This paper presents an analysis of a linear VRPM motor by using an equivalent magnetic circuit in conjunction with an electrical circuit. Based on the studies of the permeance pattern to conduct flux through the stator winding and its spatial harmonic distribution, the electrical circuit parameters, such as the self inductance of the stator winding and the induced EMF, and the static forces, such as the cogging force, the reluctance force and the electromagnetic reaction force, are derived analytically. The theoretical results are verified by experiments on a prototype
