Abstract :
This paper presents our efforts on improving wavelet transform based image coding. In particular, by making use of efficient image edge extension, a high performance significant-wavelet-coefficient-based image coding (SWCBIC) is developed. Compared with the performance of original significant-wavelet-coefficient-based scheme, namely embedded zerotree wavelet (EZW) coding, our algorithm shows improvement on image quality, especially at a high compression ratio
