Abstract :
Summary form only given as follows. Electronic devices (ED) are the main sources of harmonic pollution in low voltage power systems. Harmonics measurements require special equipment, which is quite expensive and not always available. That is why it is important to develop an analytical method, which allows to calculate fast, easily and accurately the current harmonics of waveforms, obtained experimentally. A novel analytical method for the harmonic calculations of the electronic device input currents is presented in this paper. The harmonic calculations are based on the substitution of the integration by an algebraic summation of the various jumps of the approximation of the functions and their derivatives, at the function discontinuity points. The method is presented by two examples related to the two basic cases of rectified filters-a rectified bridge with a C-filter and LC-filter connected at its output. The calculated results are compared with measured ones. A fairly good agreement emerges between the measured and calculated results. Especially good results are obtained for the calculation of the basic harmonic, the RMS value and the THD coefficient, which are the most important characteristics of the analyzed input ED currents. The advantages of the proposed method are in its simplicity, accuracy and its applicability to any type of electronic devices´ currents.
