Abstract :
This paper presents an active power factor controller for a PMSM drive to improve the high input current harmonics created from the power diodes as well as the switching of the inverter. The detailed design is analyzed and implemented by a motor drive prototype. The experimental results verify the feasibility of PMSM motor drive with designed APFC controller. In addition, the experimental results of a PMSM drive with and without APFC are compared and demonstrated that the former owns the superior power factor correction capability more than the latter.
