Abstract
Integrated multi-section distributed-Bragg-reflector filters were employed as channel filters, channel power monitors, and channel power controllers/equalizers in a WDM system. The tunable active filter we used was an integrated 4-section InGaAs/InGaAsP DBR laser biased below threshold. Experimental results on an 8-channel WDM system are reported. With this simple and integrated structure, the cost to implement a WDM network monitoring and control system can be greatly reduced
