Abstract :
As the cellular services at 850 MHz move from analog to digital and the new personal communication services at 1900 MHz join the competition, the operators have the option of bringing the two systems together to reduce operational cost and increase trunking efficiency. We discuss throughput and trunking efficiency in the evolution of AMPS/D-AMPS based cellular and PCS systems. We present examples of evolution paths and compare different strategies. We recommend the optimum strategy based on achieving the maximum throughput during the evolution
