Abstract :
This paper proposes relay specific self-organized functions to optimize the Donor eNB (DeNB) selection upon alternating load and mobility conditions or when specific donors are out of operation due to failure. Initially, we identify the main parameters that influence such donor selection process introducing the inter-DeNB handover and the re-configuration overhead as additional optimization targets, before analyzing the proposed iterative improvement algorithms. Besides centralized solutions, we also introduce a novel distributed one, which may react faster compensating failure, load and mobility fluctuations using only neighbor DeNB information. A simulation study demonstrates the benefits of our approach against conventional schemes considering load balancing, loss, mobility regulation and overhead, providing the basis for deployment recommendations.
