Abstract :
The process called “heatless-cure” trickle coating uses specially formulated resins that will cure chemically without a post heat-cure or baking process. It can reduce energy consumption and harmful emissions by 90%, and it facilitates the concepts of “work-cell” and “just-in-time” manufacturing. It will reduce in-process inventory, material handling, storage, and the overall manufacturing cycle. The net result will be an increase in inventory turnovers which will lower manufacturing costs and increase plant capacity. The machinery is such smaller and less costly than the high temperature oven-cure process and makes it more feasible for each work center to have its own equipment to eliminate the inefficiencies of several departments sharing a common centralized system with its long, expensive, and complex conveyor systems. The author discusses the use of unsaturated polyester resin commonly used in the motor, transformer, appliance, power tool, automotive, and coil industries. The “heatless-cure” process is restricted to the trickle coating process which applies resin directly to the winding
