In this paper, the relation between construction industry development in China and external influential factors was analyzed based on set pair analysis (SPA), which was helpful to create a favorable external environment for the sustainable and healthy development of Chinese construction industry. According to the statistical data of construction industry in China from 1990 to 2008, construction added value was chosen as the dependent variable, and its external influential factors, such as economic level, social development, national macroeconomic policies, opening up policy and construction-related industries were selected as the independent variables to analyze the relation between them. It was found that construction industry had closer relationship with related industries, economic level and opening up policy compared to that with national macroeconomic policies and social development factors. The results showed the proposed method was feasible and effective. In addition, it was simple and easy, which was able to illustrate the interrelation visually and was gifted with potential advantages in practice.
