Abstract :
Cloud storage has changed the way we store our data. Cloud can be considered as the next stage in the evolution of data storage; in that, just like flash drives phased out compact disks, it is phasing out flash drives for many users and cloud dependence is steadily increasing. Cloud has become ubiquitous in a relatively shorter span of time and it is predicted that, within the next few years, most personal and corporate storage will move to the cloud servers. We are already starting to see user trends shift towards that end. This means that local storage will become redundant, for most users. Looking at the increasing access data rates for both wired and wireless networks, it seems probable that cloud storage will eventually replace local storage on a large scale if not completely. Against the same backdrop, we propose to reduce network load, in the wake of upcoming increase in Internet traffic, due to increased storage on the cloud and synchronization services. Latency-aware Self-aligning Storage (LSS) - a purely network oriented approach, acts as an intelligent latency reduction mechanism that reduces the amount of information that travels across the globe every day, to a minimum, by intelligently changing file locations while keeping the associations intact. This results in significant reduction in retrieval times.
