Abstract :
The power system upgrade for the Texas Experimental Tokamak (TEXT) has been simulated by EMTP (Electromagnetic Transients Program) code on a VAX computer system. The authors present the simulation models and parameters of the motor-generators, transformers, convertors, feedback control, and loads. The simulation results for normal operations and various failure modes in the system are also reported. The simulation results show that the power system is satisfactory for the TEXT upgrade. The two identical energy storage and conversion components still store some excess energy which can be used for future power requirements. The simulation results for various failure modes in the system supplied important information for design of the protection system and the generator foundation. These results also give guidelines for future test and operation of the power system
