Abstract :
This paper describes a technique for compressing body surface potential mapping data techniques commonly found in applications. The data are transformed into their spatial frequency components and higher frequency, lower information components are discarded whilst the remaining data are compressed and stored using lossless coding. Schemes based on the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Walsh Hadamard Transform (WHT) were examined and both found to give improved compression performance compared with a time domain method that is commonly used for compression of single channel electrocardiograms.
