  • Abstract
A signal model is proposed for the QAM receiver in order to study the relationship between channel distortions in frequency and system performance in time. A method for channel recovery from the receiver output is then developed. The channel response in the frequency domain and its relation to distortions in the time domain are examined. Signal information is used to characterize the communication system status during both normal and stressful conditions. Identification of failures, distortions, and interfering phenomena is obtained from channel data using the multipath channel and path loss models developed earlier.
