Abstract
Among the different models of assembly process planning used as support for assembly system design the assembly state transition diagrams (ASTDs) present some interesting features. Unfortunately there is no easy method for the building of these ASTDs. The paper contributes to the simplification of generation of ASTDs. The systematic determination of ASTDs proposed is an indirect generation by assembly graphs. A global schema shows the position of this job in the works dedicated to assembly system design. The current method used for ASTD generation is given and compared with the method proposed by the authors. The main advantage of the current approach is to avoid the total generation of ASTD and its pruning
