Abstract
A stochastic Petri net (SPN) model of a computer control and communication system for factory automation using a fibre distributed data interface (FDDI) is applied to controller synthesis for a stochastic discrete event dynamic system (SDEDS). This system is modelled using stochastic Petri nets (SPN) as the various parameters associated with the communication system are stochastic in nature. They have the memoryless property and hence a Markov chain description can be used for modelling and analysis of the system. A transition rate matrix is obtained for the above system and using this matrix, it is shown that the controller can be synthesised for the specified operation of the stochastic DEDS
