Abstract :
Examines talker echo issues associated with transporting voice services over an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network. Several alternatives for carrying voice while controlling echo are identified: partially filled cells, adaptively filled cells, echo cancellers, composite cells, and aggregated voice. These alternatives are summarized in terms of voice cell utilization efficiency, the degree of added network complexity, and whether they require additional network functions which have not yet been identified for B-ISDN (broadband integrated services digital network)
