Abstract :
Leopar software is a recent new natural language parser based on interaction grammars (IG), the parsing output of a sentence is an ordered tree where nodes represent syntactic constituents described by feature structures. It has promising broad applications in sentence processing studies (mainly in French). The present paper gives a theoretical and operational introduction to Leopar in the study of sentence processing. It first presents briefly the basic concepts of Leopar in IG. Then the rule-based nature to sentence processing, which may interprets the process of Leopar in sentence processing studies is given. Following this, a study example in complex French sentence processing using Leopar, which was conducted from the rule-based perspective, is demonstrated. Finally, conclusions with regard to the potential use of Leopar are summarized.
