Abstract :
This study presents results of theoretical studies which predict that this system can produce a variety of nonlinear optical phenomena including superfluorescent Rayleigh scattering, spontaneous optical bandgap formation and modulational instability. Preliminary experimental results which indicate spontaneous density grating formation in a weakly pumped suspension of particles are also presented.
