Abstract :
A dielectric sphere mounted diel-core multiflare pyramidal horn supporting plural hybrid modes is superior to the diel-core rectangular horn suggested by E.L. Lier (1990) in terms of lower sidelobe levels. The multimode operation and the diel-core technique will contribute to the low sidelobe and cross-polarization levels at higher directivity, and the technique of sphere mounting will further improve the horn performance with lower sidelobe and cross-polarization and further increased gain. The cross-polarization is reduced by approximately 3 dB due to dielectric sphere mounting. Also, there is a gain enhancement up to 3 dB by sphere mounting.<>
