Abstract
This paper presents the synthesis of a planar array antenna with rectangular cells using genetic algorithms (GAs). GAs are used to calculate the complex excitation coefficients for each element of the array in order to obtain a radiation pattern specified by many constraints. The results show good agreement between the desired and calculated radiation pattern when we use the GA with a penalty function
