Abstract :
The paper presents a new method of double talk protection in acoustic echo cancellation (AEC), named weighted-sum normalization. The weighted-sum method replaces the normalization term of the traditional NLMS (normalized least mean square) algorithm by the sum of the weighted power of the residue echo signal and the power of the reference signal. Emulation results on AEC have shown that this method can stabilize the adaptive filter in the case of large fluctuations of the near-end signal, such as in the double talk situation.
