Abstract
Lock-in amplifiers are used to recover information from a noisy signal. There is a trade-off between the noise reduction obtained and the speed of response. We present the use of a cumulative average as a low-pass filter element in a lock-in amplifier. This configuration produces faster time responses than standard approaches, but without sacrificing noise reduction. Results are supported by numerical simulations using Simulink.
