Abstract
The World Wide Web (Web) offers a very simple and cost effective way of exchanging multimedia information over wide area networks (WAN). In its usual form the Web allows users to download files from a remote server and view them locally as hypertext documents. These documents can contain multimedia data, for example, text, images, and audio clips. Several database vendors provide links between their products and Web servers so that the database can be queried across a WAN using Web viewers such as NetscapeTM. The application described here introduces an `Intranet´, this uses Web technology for document management within the internal network of the Oxford Radcliffe Hospital NHS Trust
