Abstract
This research examines data collected from chief executive officers (CEOs) and chief technology officers (CTOs) of Fortune “500” companies as to how new technology is acquired, and who plays a major role in the decisions. It is found that firms make use of chief technology officers and Scientific Advisory Committees in assisting in the difficult task of selecting appropriate new technology. The study in general indicates a greater participation of CEOs in the new product technology process, either personally or with and/or through the use of a CTO as part of their staff
