    Microwave photonics has greatly advanced due to rapid progress in specific component as well as system design. In this paper, the use of optical link technologies for micro- and millimeterwave systems is described on the basis of a successful development of high-speed photonic devices. The different applications of such optical interconnects are finally addressed
