Abstract
Demands on an effective telemedicine system have been ever increasing. With the advent of computer and communication technologies, construction of an effective telemedicine system becomes possible. In this paper, we present a Web-based medical image processing system for telemedicine applications. First, we identify functional requirements for a medical image processing system. Then we describe the structure and functions of our system, named KoMIPS (Konkuk Medical Image Processing System). The system provides the following facilities: (1) image processing such as zoom in/out, rotation, mirror/flip, and reverse, (2) image analysis such as MCA (multi channel analyzer), ROI (region of interest) and contrast control, and (3) DICOM encoding/decoding. A prototype has been developed and showed the usefulness of our approach.
