Abstract
Six Schiff bases L1–L6 are successfully synthesized by reacting 1,8-diaminonaphthalene with aldehyde and ketone derivatives in the ratio of 1∶2 (amine: aldehyde / ketone). The Schiff bases are characterized using various physical and spectral techniques namely elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy and melting point determination. The neurotoxicity of the compounds is evaluated using neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cell lines at which they are indicated to be non-toxic.
