Mobile learning experience in the calculus classroom

Mobile technologies are ubiquitous in modern society, and college students find themselves increasingly immersed in their use. Is it possible to integrate this hand-held universe of mobile technology into the STEM classroom so that it becomes an organic, integral part of the 21^st-century learning experience? Can mobile technology be used to enhance and improve the learning experience of students, one that develops both their technical and psycho-social skills? This paper discusses our attempt to do so at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, by developing a “mobile portal” through which instructors and students can access mobile content to supplement and expand the in-class learning environment.
