Abstract
A system to monitor the subcutaneous tissue glucose concentration continuously and ex vivo with a portable device is presented. The method of open flow microperfusion was evaluated during hyperinsulinemic hypoglycaemic clamp experiments in 6 healthy volunteers. During these experiments good agreement (correlation coefficients 0.85-0.95, n=65-91) between blood glucoseand subcutaneous tissue glucose concentration could be observed. In conclusion, it could be shown that monitoring subcutaneous tissue glucose concentrations during hypoglycaemia is feasible with open flow microperfusion
