  • Abstract
There are economic advantages of rejuvenating an existing switchboard, apart from the essentials of health and safety. It has been proven that by careful study of existing equipment (i.e. cubicles, bus bars, bus risers, cable boxes and cables), by retrofitting a new circuit breaker, existing short circuit ratings or enhanced ratings can be achieved. An ideal type of circuit breaker would be a vacuum breaker, for apart from their compact size they discharge no effluent and require a minimum of maintenance. Such switchgear maintenance is examined by the author in this paper
