Abstract
This paper presents a novel driver circuit for cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) of a backlighting module. The proposed circuit combines an active power-factor-correction (PFC) cell with a half-bridge resonant inverter. The presented driver features low-ripple input current, high efficiency (>90%), high power factor (>0.99), cost-effectiveness, compact size, lamp-current equalizations, and reduced leakage current. A laboratory-prototype driver circuit for 16 CCFLs of a 27-inch liquid-crystal-display (LCD) module is developed with utility-line input voltage of 110 V. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and theoretical correctness of the circuit.
