Abstract
The relationship between solution of the infinite horizon optimal control problem and the stability of the corresponding optimal control system is investigated. Under suitable assumptions about the Lagrangian, the well-known result that optimality of the control in conjunction with controllability of the system implies that the cost is finite is used to conclude that the closed loop optimal system is L(0,∞) 2 input-output stable. In the case where the system is also detectable and reachable, it is shown that L(0,∞)2 input-output stability implies internal stability
