Abstract :
Currently, IP networks are becoming mission critical and the best-effort service model is no longer sufficient. The Internet architecture has to be extended with service differentiation mechanisms. Differentiated service (DiffServ) architecture is proposed for QoS provision over IP networks. With the connectionless protocol architecture, to satisfy the requirements of guaranteed services is an important and highly challenging task. In this paper, we present a simple and effective delay-jitter traffic control approach for supporting premium services, such as virtual leased line, without per-flow management in DiffServ networks. Through mathematical analysis, we demonstrate that the proposed strategy features an adequate performance in delay-jitter. Moreover, it is feasible in implementation. We also provide a simulation analysis that evaluates the property of the proposed strategy. It may fulfill the emerging needs of guaranteed services over IP networks
