  • Abstract
Idris enhancement techniques can form the foundation of travel time algorithms for incident management systems. This contributes to decreasing costs by saving precious time to detect and respond to an incident, and by capitalising on existing installations. The techniques enable high quality data to be used in existing incident detection systems, contributing to reduced false alarm rates. The Idris incident detection system needs precisely this sort of input data-high quality, parametric description for each vehicle. Very briefly, the algorithms which detect a single stopped vehicle use each vehicle´s data to predict its arrival at the next site downstream, and then match arriving vehicles to their predictions. If a vehicle is not matched, it has failed to arrive and an alarm is raised, and so accurate matching is paramount to its success
