Abstract :
In this paper, we present the experimental results and analysis of TCP transmission over a geostationary satellite using the standard mechanism proposed to improve TCP performance including window scale option (RFC1323) and selective acknowledgement (SACK) option (RFC2018). The experiment was done at the rate of E1 using KOREASAT-2. Linux operating system was the main platform of experiment and we used classical IP-over-ATM protocol to interconnect two systems via satellite. The results show that the size of the TCP window affects the performance of TCP over a satellite network and by tuning the window size we could obtain the theoretical throughput. The SACK option could not improve the throughput of TCP significantly but reduced the number of retransmission packets
