Abstract
The design of the conversion of the pulsed electron beam accelerator EROS (3.5MeV, 100kA) into a proton accelerator is proposed. These proton beams are intended to impact fluorinated or lithium containing targets to liberate characteristic radiations. Initial work including circuit simulations to identify EROS as the most suitable of AWE´s pulsed accelerators is presented. Maintaining the negative polarity (centre conductor) pulse two proton loads, one based on a rod pinch diode[1] and another using a convolute to accelerate the protons forward into a gas cell[2]. The diode concepts are optimised and the potential fluence predicted.
