  • Abstract
Summary form only given. Boeing Electron Dynamic Devices, Inc has developed a full line of linearized TWTAs (LTWTAs)for use on communication satellites. The linearizer is designed to produce gain expansion and phase advance as maximum TWTA output power is approached and thus counteract the non-linearities of the TWTA. These LTWTAs cover the full frequency range from S-band through K-band. This paper discusses the effects of linearization upon the various RF performance parameters of the LTWTA such as AM/PM conversion, intermodulation distortion, noise power ratio, etc., as well as the effects upon the overall communication system, and how spacecraft designers can best avail themselves of these new devices. Additionally, future trends in both TWT and EPC designs are suggested.
