  • Abstract
    The achieving a system operational availability requirement (ASOAR) model is a macroanalysis analytic tool that estimates optimal end item operational availabilities from the system requirement. A system operational availability (Ao) requirement is a quantitative expression of user need. Ao represents the probability that an item will be in an operable or committable condition at any random point in calendar time. Information about model outputs and inputs, equipment configuration and support concepts handled by ASOAR, and potential applications for the ASOAR model are presented. Also, two different system supportability application examples are discussed, one in communications availability and the other in operational availability. Attention is also given to model verification and documentation.
