Abstract
Omega transmissions were terminated on 30 September 1997. This paper describes the evolution, history, and accomplishments of the Omega radionavigation service, drawing parallels with GPS. In particular, the international acceptance of Omega and details of system termination may hold lessons applicable to GPS. We must learn from history, both to capitalize on what worked as well as to avoid repeating the errors
