Abstract :
This paper describes how deregulation of the European energy market will force electric utilities to focus on efficiency and power quality. The MV and LV distribution network will be an important target for utilities to reduce life cycle cost and increase customer value. The authors describe how ABB have prepared for this new market environment by investing in long-term R&D programs as well as development projects with distributed intelligent control products being introduced on the market in 1997/1998
