Abstract :
The World Wide Web has become the largest source of Internet traffic, but it was not designed for wireless networks. This paper discusses some of the problems encountered when using the Web over wireless networks and describes solutions to those problems. By designing a multithreaded proxy server that prefetches documents to clients, reduces the resolution of large bitmaps, and communicates with clients using a new protocol, the multiple hypertext transfer protocol, we have reduced document load time by over 30%
